Membership Categories

Full Member (Clinical)

The following criteria must be met for this category:

  • A current registered qualification in nursing/ medicine/ pharmacy/ D&A/ physiotherapy/ psychology/ health education or relevant qualifications as deemed suitable by the committee
  • A minimum of 1 year’s work in the field of smoking cessation
  • Work a minimum of 4 hours of smoking cessation-related work per week
  • Successful completion of an AASCP recognised smoking cessation training course

Full members (clinical) needs to earn a minimum of 10 continuing professional education points per year to maintain full membership (clinical).

Full Member (Non-Clinical)

This membership category is tailored for people who work in smoking cessation but do not do clinical work. This includes teaching, policy and public health. The following criteria must be me for this category:

  • A current registered qualification in nursing/ medicine/ pharmacy/ D&A/ physiotherapy/ psychology/ health education or relevant qualifications as deemed suitable by the committee
  • A minimum of 1 year’s work in a smoking-related field
  • Work a minimum of 4 hours of smoking-related work per week
  • Successful completion of an AASCP recognised smoking cessation training course

Full members (non-clinical) needs to earn a minimum of 10 continuing professional education points per year in smoking cessation to maintain full membership (non-clinical). AASCP prides itself on all its members (clinical and non-clinical) keeping up to date in smoking cessation and see it as a requirement of membership.

Affiliate Membership (Clinical) & Affiliate Membership (Non-Clinical)

The Executive committee may elect a person, who would not otherwise qualify to be a ‘Full member’ of the association, to be an affiliate member.

Applicants will be awarded Affiliate Membership under the clinical or non-clinical sub categories if:

  • They do not have a medical background, and/or
  • They have been working in a smoking-related field for less than a year, and/or
  • They work less than 4 hours in smoking-related work per week, and/or
  • They have not attended an AASCP endorsed smoking cessation training course

Affiliate members can be upgraded to Full Membership status if they can later meet the full membership requirements.

Associate Member

An associate member shall be any organisation, firm or company that has made an application to the Secretary and is currently supporting the association. After their application is accepted, they can nominate a single representative to receive the above membership benefits.

Honorary Member

The Executive committee by unanimous vote may confer the status of honorary member on any person, who in the opinion of the Executive committee, is a person distinguished by reason of his/her notable contributions to the field of smoking cessation.

Honorary members shall not be required to pay annual subscription or levies. The honorary member shall be eligible to vote at meetings, make nominations, hold any office in the association or be a member of the committee.

 

Membership is $150 and is due every November.
